Our Story

Birdie Girl was created from a love of golf, the joy of spending time with girlfriends, and the need for stylish accessories that add a touch of fun to every round.

Birdie Girl is a female-owned company located in Boise, Idaho. We are on a mission to get more women to love golf. We started with a small collection of ball markers and over time have grown to include dozens of different accessories. We hope wearing your Birdie Girl golf accessories will help you show your love for the game and put a smile on your face.

  • Hi, I’m Lindzee Barrera, the founder of Birdie Girl Golf, and this is my story of how a life filled with golf, a little Vegas flair, and a love for fun, feminine golf gear led to the creation of this brand.

I was born and raised in a suburb of Seattle until I was 15, when my family moved to Central Washington. Golf has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up playing competitive golf and eventually earned a scholarship to the University of Idaho (Go Vandals!), where I played for four years. My senior year was a highlight—I made the 2nd team all-conference and earned Academic All-American honors.

But by the end of my senior year, I was totally burnt out. After my last round, I danced on the 18th green (maybe even pretended my club was a horse—don’t judge!). That’s when I knew I needed a break from the game.

After college, I moved to Las Vegas and worked on the Strip, where I bet tourists on par 3s to see if I could get closer to the pin than they could. Spoiler alert: The house always wins. It was a wild experience—imagine playing in a skirt and heels for a job—but it was the most unique work I’ve ever done.

Golf runs deep in my family. My dad, a self-made golf course architect and PGA member for over 40 years, designed and built seven courses in Washington state before he passed away in 2010. He was my hero, my only swing coach, and a huge advocate for girls’ golf. My two brothers also became golf pros. My dad’s passion for the game and his belief in creating opportunities for women in golf still inspire me today.

In 2008, I left the golf industry and moved to Boise, Idaho, to work for a marketing agency. Yes, I even worked as a French fry marketer! (Fun fact: That’s why you’ll sometimes see me sneak in 19th hole recipes on Birdie Girl’s Instagram.)

Boise is where I met my amazing husband, Javier, at a local bar, and we now have two wonderful kids, Anabel and Jack (named after my dad), plus our adorable Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Peter Barker. My mom also moved to Boise and now helps me pack orders and organize inventory.

Despite leaving competitive golf behind, I still play for fun. While I may not be as good as I was in college (I haven’t kept an official handicap in years), I still hit my drives around 250 yards—sometimes on the wrong fairway! Playing with my girlfriends now brings me all the joy I need.

In 2010, I bet my husband’s best friend that I could teach Javier to break 90 before he turned 40. Spoiler: I lost the bet, and now I owe him a trip to Maui. (Javier is more into computers and skiing, but that’s okay!)

In 2021, after years of not finding a ball marker that felt fun, feminine, and gift-worthy, I decided to create one myself. That’s how Birdie Girl Golf was born. I was blown away by the support I received from women who felt the same way I did—golf needed more playful, sassy accessories made just for them.

In 2024, I made a big leap: I left my corporate marketing job of 15 years to run Birdie Girl Golf full-time. It’s been the best decision, allowing me to focus entirely on growing this brand and helping more women have fun on the course. My mission is simple: I want to see more women loving the game of golf as much as I do, and to encourage them to stick with it.

Thank you for being a part of this journey with me and for supporting Birdie Girl Golf. Whether you’re new to the game or have been playing for years, I hope our products bring you joy and fun on and off the course!

    XOXO,
    Lindzee Barrera
    Founder, Birdie Girl Golf
